Our Story

Deanna DeMatteo has been a pupil of the natural world since she was a child. Inspired by a passion to help Earth heal, Deanna created Verdant World Garden Design to bring people closer to the natural environments around them. With over ten years of experience in the plant world, she hopes to teach and encourage others about the importance of native plants, establishing wildlife habitats, and restoring biodiversity back into landscapes.

Deanna believes the private “landowner” has an obligation to give back and restore the landscape; they are the future of conservation as we know it! By choosing native plant species over ornamental non-native species, we can build healthier habitats to enjoy, while simultaneously giving our wildlife a place to thrive.

We hope to empower others to think of a world outside of the one we have created for humans. Will you help us? Let’s create a verdant world together!

Deanna has a background in organic farming, ecological horticulture, animal care, and plant medicine. She studied herbalism for two years under Mischa Schuler of Wild Carrot Herbs. She is always signing herself up for new classes and webinars, and is currently in the process of completing the certificate in Native Plants and Ecological Horticulture through Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens.

“Learning is a lifelong journey and I am eager to expand my understanding of the natural world. Through observation and the teachings of others, I am committed to continuously improving and evolving my practices.”
